The Addr-Type Object

This content is no longer actively maintained. It is provided as is, for anyone who may still be using these technologies, with no warranties or claims of accuracy with regard to the most recent product version or service release.

Every gateway has an associated address type that corresponds to the address format of the foreign system that the gateway serves. This address type is represented by an Addr-Type object. If the address type for your gateway does not already exist in Microsoft® Active Directory®, you must install the Addr-Type object and any associated information when you install the gateway itself. Whether your gateway uses a new or an already existing address type, you must associate the address type to your gateway. For an example of this procedure, see Creating an Address Type and Address Space.

The following components are associated with an Addr-Type object:

  • A proxy address generation dynamic-link library (DLL) that enables the system to generate proxy addresses of the corresponding address type.
  • Address entry templates that help the administrator or user to manually enter a recipient address of this address type. There are two types of templates: normal and MS-DOS.
  • Per-message and per-recipient option templates that enable users to set options in messages sent to addresses of this address type.
