Localizing Address Type Components

Addressing components should be translated into all languages needed by people who will be using your gateway. You should also translate the templates, message and recipient option property sheets, and online Help for your Addr-Type object, because these items can be accessed by users. For address entry templates, message option templates, and recipient option templates, create one for each language. Create a separate Windows Help file for each language.

To translate template files, you translate the fields that contain text strings into the target language, and recompile those files with the TEMPLATE.EXE utility. To translate a Windows Help file, first translate the text in the source file, and then recompile the file with the HTML Help Workshop.

Each target language is associated with a number, known as the language identifier, that you will need to know when you install the translated components. For example, the language identifier for English is 409, 40C is French, and 407 is German. A list of language identifiers can be found in the Microsoft® Platform Software Development Kit (SDK) under Base Services/International Features/National Language Support/National Language Support Constants/Language Identifiers.
