event

A significant action that occurs in the operating system or in an application that causes users to be notified, an entry to be written to a log, or both. In SMS, you can use the Event to Trap Translator (or a .cnf file) to translate events on Windows NT/Windows 2000 clients to Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) traps. In Network Monitor, events are reported by the Monitor Control service or by an expert and are displayed in the Events window. Network Monitor events are stored in a Common Information Model Object Data Manager (CIMOM) repository.
