Jobs in Planning Business Modeler
Planning Business Modeler enables modelers to create and track data-submission assignments for users, and jobs for automated system actions. The following list describes the elements of process scheduling.
An assignment is a process-related task, such as data entry, that is assigned to a user. You can define assignments to include review and/or approval by other users.
A job is a system task such as loading data, running rule sets, or sending notifications. You can define jobs and run them either as part of a cycle, or independently.
A cycle defines the date that a job will occur or that an assignment is due. A cycle might be a one-time occurrence, or it might be scheduled to recur repeatedly over a span of time or a specific number of instances.
In Planning Business Modeler, you can create jobs as part of a process schedule inside a cycle. They can also exist independently of a cycle.
Modelers must make sure that permissions are appropriate for the user to whom a job is assigned. In general, rules can be run by the Modeler who creates the rule, and by the users who are assigned the job that is associated with a given rule.
Regardless of the task that a business rule performs, Planning Business Modeler only verifies that a user who runs a job has permission to run the given rule. Even if the rule modifies the model dimensions, Planning Business Modeler does not verify whether the assigned user has permission to read from or write to associated dimensions.
Note
When Modelers assign a user to run a job, they must make sure that the user meets appropriate security requirements.
Planning Server provides several predefined job templates that you can use to define a specific job instance. In addition to this set of standard jobs, you can create custom jobs.
