Using the Windows Media Audio 9 Codec

banner art

The basic audio procedures described in the Working with Audio section apply directly to the Windows Media Audio codec. No special procedures are required. The Windows Media Audio codec is implemented in the encoder object identified by the class identifier CLSID_CWMAEncMediaObject, and in the decoder object identified by the class identifier CLSID_CWMADecMediaObject. The format tag of media types using this codec is 0x161.

There are several versions of the Windows Media Audio codec. This documentation applies to the Windows Media Audio 9 codec and the Windows Media Audio 9.1 codec. There is no difference in the use of these two codec versions.

Both the Windows Media Audio 9 codec and the Windows Media Audio 9.1 codec support all encoding modes.
