Creating a Dependency Group

Dependency groups are groups of components upon which any component can specify an include dependency or a build order dependency. A dependency group is defined in Windows XP Embedded Component Designer and saved in an .sld file.

After you create a dependency group, you can add components to the group by modifying the definitions of those components. Membership in a group is specified by the members, not by the group.

To create a dependency group

  1. In Windows XP Embedded Component Designer, open the .sld file or create a new one.

  2. In the SLD browser in the left pane, expand the platform node.

  3. Right-click Dependencies and choose Add Dependency.

The properties of the dependency group appear in the details pane. For more information, see Common Properties.

  4. Type the appropriate information in each box.

  5. To specify a secondary platform for the dependency group, choose Platforms, choose a platform from the list, and choose OK.

If only one platform is supported, the Secondary list is blank.

  6. From the Default Dependency Type list, choose a default type for this group.

Dependency type specifies the number of components in the dependency group that are required by a component when the component has an include dependency on the group. The default is used when an include dependency on this group does not specify a dependency type.

  7. To add extended properties to the dependency group, choose Advanced.

For more information, see Extended Properties.

  8. Save the .sld file.

  9. Add components to the dependency group.

For more information, see Assigning an Object to a Group.
