Attributes and Properties

Each element in a markup file may have zero or more attributes associated with them. Several types of attributes are used in the various display elements. They are described in the following topics:

Each attribute is associated with a property of the object that corresponds to the element in the DOM tree. Because of this, the terms attribute and property are sometimes used interchangeably. However some properties of objects in the DOM tree, such as the state properties, do not have corresponding attributes that can be set from markup.
