Selecting a Debug or Release OS Image

You can select either a debug OS image or a release OS image when you set up a Windows CE–based platform. You must make your selection before you build the platform. When you build the platform, your selection determines the type of OS image that is built. For information about the characteristics of each type of OS image, see OS Image Types.

To select a debug or release OS image

  1. From the Build menu, choose Set Active Configuration.

  2. From the Platform configurations list, select the entry that describes the type of OS image that you want.

If you expect the size of your OS image to exceed 32 megabytes (MB), enable support for a large OS image in the settings for the platform. For information about enabling support for a large OS image, see Enabling an OS Image Size Larger Than 32 MB.

Note   Debug OS images are typically larger than release OS images. If you chose a debug OS image and your platform contains many features, it is likely that the size of your OS image will exceed 32 MB.

  3. Choose OK.
