Microsoft® Exchange Server 2003 supplies several snap-ins for Microsoft Management Console (MMC).

  • The Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in replaces the standard Microsoft Active Directory® Users and Computers snap-in to allow management of user accounts and associated mailboxes.
  • The Exchange Advanced Security snap-in allows administrators to control access and administrative rights to Exchange resources and configurations.
  • The Exchange Conferencing Services snap-in, part of the Exchange Server 2003 Conferencing Server, allows you to configure resource accounts for scheduling online conferences.
  • The Exchange Folders snap-in supports configuring and creating permissions for Exchange store public folders.
  • The Exchange Message Tracking Center snap-in is used for tracking message delivery through the Exchange organization.
  • The Exchange System snap-in is the primary management utility used by Exchange administrators. It supports viewing and changing configurations for an entire Exchange Server 2003 organization.

You can program additional MMC snap-ins using Microsoft Visual Basic® or Microsoft Visual C++®. If the snap-in is to be run on the Exchange Server computer, you can use the server-side programming interfaces. If the custom MMC snap-in is intended to run on a client computer instead of the Exchange Server computer, it will have to use one of the other standardized protocols.
