The Windows Embedded CE remote tools use a two-part communication infrastructure to manage communication between a development workstation and a Windows Embedded CE-based device.

The Core Connectivity infrastructure enables communication between a desktop workstation and a target device. The Platform Manager technology enables application-level connectivity between an application on a development workstation and a target device. The combination of the two technologies enables remote tools to download and connect to a target device in a media-independent manner.

The Core Connectivity Infrastructure replaces Platform Manager for all core connectivity needs other than remote tools. Do not use the Platform Manager API except in existing code that does not have to be compatible with future releases of Windows Embedded CE.
