Licensing Information for Developing Active Directory Rights Management Solutions

If you are developing an AD RMS-enabled application, you must sign a Production License Agreement from Microsoft and obtain a Production certificate before moving the application from the Pre-production hierarchy to the Production hierarchy.

Note  If you are using RMS 1.0 SP1 or earlier, you must also sign a Development License Agreement to obtain a Pre-production certificate before developing an AD RMS-enabled application. Versions of the AD RMS later than SP1 include this certificate in the SDK.

Requesting a License Agreement

When you request a license agreement, it is recommended ask that you keep the following best practices in mind:

  • Please submit the information as it should appear on the legal agreement.
  • Please complete the form in English.
  • Please provide a valid e-mail address, if possible.
  • Please send all the requested information; missing or incomplete information may delay your request.

To obtain a license agreement

Send an e-mail message to [RMLA@microsoft.com](mailto:rmla@microsoft.com) and include the following information:

  - Company name:

  - Company's physical address, including the city, state, country or region, zip or postal code:

  - Company's mailing address (where the originals of the agreement should be sent), including the city, state, country or region, zip or postal code:

  - Company's country or region of incorporation:

  - Company's application or product name:

  - Requester's full (first and last) name:

  - Requester's title/position:

  - Requester's e-mail address:
    
    Although e-mail is not a requirement, the ADRMLA process relies heavily on e-mail for communication. Therefore, it is recommended that you consider getting an e-mail account through a service provider.   1. The Active Directory Rights Management Licensing Agreement (ADRMLA) team will respond to your request within three (3) business days by e-mail, longer if communication is by postal service. The response will include the license agreement and further instructions.

  2. Read, sign, and return all pages of the license agreement to the ADRMLA team.

    Note  Please do not change the fonts or reformat the paragraphs of the license agreement.

    Be sure to follow the instructions you receive from the ADRMLA team; the instructions provide a list and explanation of the pieces of digital information needed to fulfill your AD RMS SDK certificate request. By following the step-by-step instructions you will expedite the processing of your request and reduce delays.

  3. The ADRMLA team will forward your AD RMS certificate to you after it is created. The AD RMS certificate is created based on the license agreement and digital information you provide. Please note that it may take up to 15 business days for the ADRMLA team to reply with your certificate by e-mail, longer if communication is by postal service.
