MMC Administration Tool

Microsoft Management Console (MMC) provides a common console framework for system management applications and hosts administrative tools called MMC snap-ins.

Storing database connection strings in the Web.Config file makes your connection strings more manageable and more secure. If you need to change your database password, you change it in only one location. In addition, the tool can be used to encrypt connection strings on production servers and help you avoid hard-coding database connection strings into your ASP.NET pages.

The Web site Administration tool allows you to:

Configure application security, including authentication and authorization settings. Manage users and roles for your application. Create or manage application settings. Configure SMTP e-mail settings. Take an application temporarily offline, to allow reliable updates of content and data. Adjust debugging and tracing settings. Define a default custom error page. Select providers for use with site features such as membership.
