CIM_ProtocolEndpoint class

A communication point from which data can be sent or received. protocol endpoints link system or computer interfaces to logical networks.

Important  The DMTF (Distributed Management Task Force) CIM (Common Information Model) classes are the parent classes upon which WMI classes are built. WMI currently supports only the CIM 2.x version schemas.

The following syntax is simplified from Managed Object Format (MOF) code and includes all of the inherited properties.

Syntax

class CIM_ProtocolEndpoint : CIM_ServiceAccessPoint
{
  uint32   Type;
  string   SystemName;
  string   SystemCreationClassName;
  string   Status;
  datetime InstallDate;
  string   CreationClassName;
  string   Caption;
  string   Description;
  uint16   OperationalStatus[];
  uint16   EnabledState;
  datetime TimeOfLastStateChange;
  string   Name;
  string   NameFormat;
  uint16   ProtocolType;
  uint16   ProtocolIFType;
  string   OtherTypeDescription;
  boolean  BroadcastResetSupported;
};

Members

The CIM_ProtocolEndpoint class has these types of members:

  • Methods
  • Properties

Methods

The CIM_ProtocolEndpoint class has these methods.

Method Description
BroadcastReset

Send a broadcast reset. A broadcast reset is a request that peers perform a reset. Examples include a parallel SCSI Bus Reset and a Fibre Channel LIP.

Properties

The CIM_ProtocolEndpoint class has these properties.

BroadcastResetSupported

Data type: boolean

Access type: Read-only

A Boolean that indicates whether the instrumentation supports the BroadcastReset method.

Caption

Data type: string

Access type: Read-only

Short textual description of the object. This property is inherited from CIM_ManagedSystemElement.

CreationClassName

Data type: string

Access type: Read-only

Name of the class or subclass used in the creation of an instance. When used with other key properties of the class, this property allows all instances of the class and its subclasses to be uniquely identified.

Description

Data type: string

Access type: Read-only

A textual description of the object.

EnabledState

Data type: uint16

Access type: Read-only

This property is inherited from CIM_EnabledLogicalElement.

InstallDate

Data type: datetime

Access type: Read-only

Date and time the object was installed. This property does not require a value to indicate that the object is installed. This property is inherited from CIM_ManagedSystemElement.

Name

Data type: string

Access type: Read-only

Qualifiers: Override, MaxLen ( 256)

A string that identifies this protocol endpoint with either a port or an interface on a device. To ensure uniqueness, the Name property should be prepended or appended with information from the Type or OtherTypeDescription properties. The method selected is described in the NameFormat property of this class.

NameFormat

Data type: string

Access type: Read-only

Qualifiers: MaxLen ( 256)

The naming heuristic that is selected to ensure that the value of the Name property is unique. For example, you might choose to prepend the name of the port or interface with the Type of ProtocolEndpoint (for example, IPv4) of this instance followed by an underscore.

OperationalStatus

Data type: uint16 array

Access type: Read-only

This property is inherited from CIM_EnabledLogicalElement.

OtherTypeDescription

Data type: string

Access type: Read-only

Qualifiers: MaxLen ( 64)

A string that describes the type of protocol endpoint when the Type property of this class (or any of its subclasses) is set to 1 (Other). This property should be set to null when the Type property is any value other than 1.

ProtocolIFType

Data type: uint16

Access type: Read-only

An enumeration that is synchronized with the IANA ifType MIB. The ifType MIB is maintained at the URL, https://www.iana.org/assignments/ianaiftype-mib. Also, additional values defined by the DMTF are included. The property is used to categorize and classify instances of the ProtocolEndpoint class. Be aware that if the ProtocolIFType is set to 1 (Other), then the type information should be provided in the OtherTypeDescription string property.

ProtocolType

Data type: uint16

Access type: Read-only

Note: This property is deprecated in lieu of the ProtocolIFType enumeration. This deprecation was done to create better alignment between the IF-MIB of the IETF and this CIM class. Deprecated description: ProtocolType is an enumeration that provides information to categorize and classify different instances of this class. For most instances, information in this enumeration and the definition of the subclass overlap. However, there are several cases where a specific subclass of ProtocolEndpoint is not required (for example, there is no Fibre Channel subclass of ProtocolEndpoint). Therefore, this property is required to define the type of Endpoint.
