Specification Profiles Index Page

Web services profiles are designed to give implementers clear guidance on how to address the most common design issues that can arise in order to improve interoperability. Unlike other specifications that describe schema, message formats, and other technical details, profiles instead make reference to other specifications in order to clarify which functions must be used. As such, profiles are made up of a series of strong requirements (e.g., MUST, MUST NOT) that collectively define a testable, interoperable solution.

White Papers

Web Services on Devices and Windows Rally Technologies

As devices pervade homes and businesses, the need for a simple integration between disparate device-based systems becomes increasingly apparent. This paper discusses the benefits of bringing Web service-based connectivity to the device space in order to enable devices to work together in ways never before possible.

A Technical Introduction to the Devices Profile for Web Services

The next step for IP-capable networked devices is integration with Web services to provide secure messaging, discovery, description, and eventing. Using a printing scenario, this paper provides a technical overview of the Devices Profile and briefly describes the Web service specifications referenced by the Devices Profile.

Profiles

Devices Profile for Web Services (PDF file)

To enable a base level of interoperability between devices and Web services, the Devices Profile calls out Web service specifications in core areas and prescribes how to use them in concert to enable secure Web service messaging, discovery, description, and eventing on resource-constrained implementations.

WS-I Basic Profile Version 1.0

This document defines the WS-I Basic Profile 1.0a, and consists of a set of non-proprietary Web services specifications, along with clarifications and amendments to those specifications that promote interoperability.

Status

Feedback and Interoperability Workshops are now being conducted for the Devices Profile for Web Services.

The Devices Profile for Web Services was published as a public specification on 9 March 2006. This is the fourth joint publication of the profile.
