RPC Interface Restriction

To improve RPC security, Windows XP Embedded Service Pack 2 includes the registry key RestrictRemoteClients. This new key prohibits remote anonymous access to RPC interfaces on the system. RPC interface restriction requires the authentication of callers. This reduces the risk of being attacked by means of buffer overruns invoked anonymously and remotely.

For more information about the new RPC registry key, as well as additional RPC changes in Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2, see this Microsoft Web site.
