Seeing Windows CE IP Phones in Action (Windows CE 5.0)
In addition to understanding basic VoIP concepts, it is also very helpful to see the default Windows CE IP phone implementation in operation.
The Windows CE IP phone application enables you to communicate with another phone without first configuring a full-featured VoIP network that includes elements like SIP servers. You can then add network elements as necessary to test additional functionality.
For example, you might not have a SIP server available on your network to handle call control tasks, or you might not be using Exchange for contact and schedule information. In the absence of a SIP server, two Windows CE-based IP phones can connect directly. This means you can connect two Emulator instances, two CEPCs, or a CEPC and an Emulator running on another development PC. Or you can connect an instance of Windows Messenger (which is a SIP client) with a CEPC or Emulator.
