Hardware Device Changes that Can Improve Boot Performance

The following list shows some of the considerations you can make to improve boot performance:

  • Examine the BIOS settings of your device to see if you can disable some of the BIOS/POST tests. For example, you may be able to disable IDE channel scanning during start up, or disable memory testing.
  • Understand the limitations of the media on your device. Media such as CD-ROM or CompactFlash are significantly slower than standard hard disks. Using these types of media can slow the boot performance of your device.
  • Consider using a faster CPU.
