Transport Account Names

The Messaging Application (Inbox) supports up to eight simultaneous messaging accounts with separate stores for each of the following:

  • Short Message Service (SMS) messages
  • Each POP3, IMAP, and SMTP e-mail account
  • Exchange Server accounts using Microsoft® ActiveSync® technology

Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition renames the default ActiveSync and SMS account names and supports the replacement of the default account names and their set of message strings. For Windows Mobile-based Smartphones, Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition replaces the default account names "ActiveSync" and "SMS" with "Outlook E-Mail" and "Text Messages" respectively in the Messaging Application New menu screen, Account Options menu, list view, and Accounts and Folders screen. You can also choose to override the default account name and UI message strings by using the entries under the account registry key.

Note   The ActiveSync application remains "ActiveSync" in the UI.

Each transport has a registry subkey under the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc registry key. For example the MMS transport account uses entries under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc\MMS registry subkey to specify MMS account UI strings.

The following example sets the friendly name for the MMS transport to Media Messages.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc\MMS]
"FriendlyName"="Media Messages"

The following table shows the default account names.

Account Locale Friendly name Abbreviation
ActiveSync All* Outlook E-Mail e
SMS US/UK Text Messages txt
SMS Others* SMS sms

*The text will be localized appropriately for the language.
