There are three types of Exchange store events: synchronous events, asynchronous events, and system events. Synchronous and asynchronous events react to data requests, such as saving an item to the Exchange store or deleting an item from the Exchange store. Synchronous events fire before an item is committed to the Exchange store. Asynchronous events fire after an item has been committed to the Exchange store.

Instead of reacting to data requests, system events fire after a certain period of time, or when a database starts up or shuts down.
