The Microsoft® Exchange 2000 Server Sample Gateway should be installed on a back-end server running Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3 (SP3) or earlier. The target environment can be the Exchange 2000 server itself or a client computer.

Note  The Sample Gateway should not be installed on a front-end server.

Before you can install the Sample Gateway components on the target environment, you must install the following:

  • Microsoft Visual Studio® 6.0 (SP4) or later, with Microsoft Visual C++® and Microsoft Visual Basic®. These are necessary to compile Sample Gateway components.

Note  The Sample Gateway cannot be compiled with Visual Studio .NET

  • Microsoft Platform Software Development Kit (SDK).

  • The Exchange Software Development Kit (SDK) with Sample Gateway components. The Exchange SDK installs the Exchange 2000 Server Sample Gateway files in the \Exchange SDK\SDK\Samples\DBMsg\Exchange\E2K SGW source folder and subfolders.

Note  The required software applications must be installed in the following order:

1.  Visual Studio

2.  Platform SDK

3.  Exchange SDK

You must also ensure that the following components are installed on the target environment, whether it is an Exchange 2000 server or client computer:

  • Active DS Type Library (activeds.tlb)
  • Microsoft ActiveX® Data Objects (ADO) 2.5 library (msado15.dll)
  • Microsoft Windows® Management Instrumentation (WMI) Scripting Version 1.1 Library (wbemdisp.tlb)
  • Windows Script Host (WSH) Object Model Version 1.0 (wshom.ocx)
  • Visual Basic 6.0 Runtime (msvbvm60.dll)
  • Visual C++ 6.0 Runtime Debugger (msvcrtd.dll)
  • Windows Common Controls 6.0 (mscomctl.ocx)
  • Visual Basic Snap-In Designer Runtime (mssnapr.dll)

These components are installed with the following software:

  • Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later

      Includes: activeds.tlb, msado15.dll, wbemdisp.tlb, wshom.ocx, msvcrtd.dll

  • Visual Studio 6.0 with Service Pack 4 (SP4) or later

      Includes: msvbvm60.dll, msvcrtd.dll, mscomctl.ocx

  • Platform SDK

      Includes: mssnapr.dll

To obtain mssnapr.dll, you must install the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) samples. To do this, select a Custom Installation of the Platform SDK, and navigate to the \Sample Code\Management Samples\Microsoft Management Samples node. Click the node to include the MMC samples with the installation.

Alternatively, the Exchange SDK installs this file in the \Exchange SDK\SDK\Samples\DBMsg\Exchange\E2K SGW\SnapIns\Designer folder.

If you are installing the Sample Gateway on an Exchange 2000 client, you must also install the following:

  • Windows 2000 Server Administration Tools
  • Exchange 2000 Server Administration Pack (available on the Exchange 2000 Server CD)
