Installing the Server Appliance Kit

Server Appliance Kit

After installing and configuring Windows Server 2003, the next step in creating a server appliance is installing the Server Appliance Kit (SAK) framework software. The specific features you install will depend on the computer hardware and the purpose for which the server appliance is designed. For more information, see Server Appliance Kit Components.

You can install the SAK framework components interactively using Windows Installer, or you can install them in unattended mode. See Installation Methods for a description of both techniques.

After the SAK framework components are installed, you can customize the server appliance by extending the Web user interface. This process can be as simple as adding your own branding image to the Web UI or as elaborate as creating your own Web UI add-ins. Extending the Web UI contains more details.
