Customizing Auto Configuration

Server Appliance Kit

One of the challenges of manufacturing a server appliance is the problem of using a master image to manufacture computers that, when they are installed in a customer's network, must have unique computer names and network addresses.

To solve this problem, the Server Appliance Kit provides the SaConfig.exe utility. When you develop the master image for your device using this utility, the server appliance created from that master image can set its own, unique computer name, IP address, and Administrator account password when it is first started by your customer. The server appliance can set these values using values supplied on a floppy disk, or by using values that are stored in the registry, retrieved from a function in a dynamic-link library (DLL), or both.
