Creating a Thumbnail Image

The thumbnail image appears in More Programs on a 128 x 128 pixel button surrounded by a nine-pixel border. If you do not specify a path to your thumbnail image inside the application element of your MCL file (thumbnailImage="C:\Program Files\myProgram\images\myImage.png"), Media Center will substitute a generic image.

You can also use a relative path to your thumbnail image, such as "..\..\Program Files\myProgram\images\myImage.png", where the path is relative to the windows\ehome directory, which contains the ehshell.exe file. Another way to use a relative path is to place your MCL and image files in the same directory and specify the path using the syntax, "..\myImage.png".

You can create this image to suit your branding needs. It is acceptable to use the same image for the start image and the thumbnail. Media Center will automatically resize your thumbnail image, maintaining the same aspect ratio, to fit the square button that it appears on. If the image proportions are not square, it will appear in the center of a black, square background. If you use a transparent background for your thumbnail, your background will appear as a flat, black (R:0, G:1, B:1) color.

The file must be in Portable Network Graphics (PNG) format. Alpha channels for transparency are supported.
