Standard Cache Proxy Topologies

The following sections identify the standard ways that cache proxy servers are configured within a network. Windows Media Services does not directly support implicit proxy.

Section Description
Single-tiered Proxy Discusses a client-proxy relationship in which there is only one proxy server.
Multi-tiered Proxy Discusses a client-proxy relationship in which there are multiple bound proxy servers.
Explicit Proxy Discusses a client-proxy scenario in which the client is explicitly bound to the proxy server.
Implicit Proxy Discusses a client-proxy scenario in which the client is unaware of the proxy server but network data is nevertheless sent through the proxy.
Reverse Cache Proxy Discusses the use of reverse proxy servers to balance loads on origin servers.
