Using DCOM to Customize Security Settings

To enable remote administration of a Windows Media server, you must perform the following steps.

  1. Click Start, click Run, type DCOMCnfg, and then click OK.
  2. In the \\Component Services\Computers\My Computer\DCOM Config node of the Component Services Microsoft Management Console (MMC), right-click Windows Media Services, and then click Properties.
  3. In the Windows Media Services Properties dialog box, click the Security tab.
  4. In the Launch Permissions group box, click Edit.
  5. Click Add and specify the users who have permission to launch the server. Specify the appropriate launch permission, and then click OK.
  6. In the Access Permissions group box, click Edit.
  7. Click Add and specify the users who have permission to access the server. Specify the appropriate access permission, and then click OK.
  8. In the Configuration Permissions group box, click Edit.
  9. Click Add and specify the users who have permission to configure the server. Specify the appropriate configuration permissions, and then click OK.
  10. Restart Windows Media Services to ensure that your new settings take effect immediately.
