Parental Controls for Windows Vista


Purpose

As part of Microsoft's Family Safety efforts, Windows Vista provides Parental Controls functionality to monitor and/or limit exposure of selected computer users to online dangers and inappropriate content.

The Parental Controls technology in Windows Vista is intended to assist diligent parents or guardians in ensuring access to appropriate materials by age or maturity level for those under their guardianship. It provides an extensible infrastructure in addition to built-in capabilities.

Where Applicable

Parental Controls are designed for use in consumer-oriented SKUs of Windows Vista.

Developer Audience

Independent software vendors (ISVs) of products potentially exposing users to safety risks or currently working to protect users from such risks are encouraged to integrate with Windows Vista Parental Controls.

Run-Time Requirements

Parental Controls is deployed as a component of Windows Vista consumer SKUs.
