Step 1: Add a Content Source

The Enterprise Search in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 determines what content to crawl based on the content sources configured in the search settings. As a result, to include content from an application in the Business Data Catalog, you must create a content source for that application. Enterprise Search includes a content source type specifically for business data.

In this topic, you'll add a content source for AdventureWorks SQL Server 2000 Sample.

To add a content source for the AdventureWorks business data application

1. Open SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration.

2. Navigate to the Application Management page.

3. In the Office SharePoint Services Shared Services section of the Application Management page, click Create or Configure this Farm’s Shared Services.

4. To open the administration site for the Shared Service Provider, click the name of the Shared Service Provider for the search service.

5. In the Search section, to open the Configure Search Settings page, click Search Settings.

6. To open the Manage Content Sources page, click Content Sources.

7. Click Add Content Source, and then for Name, type Products.

8. For Content Source Type, select Business Data.

9. For Applications, select Crawl selected applications, and then select the AdventureWorks sample.

10. Select Start full crawl of this content source, and then click OK to add the content source.

The search service starts a full crawl of the new content source. The amount of time it takes to complete the full crawl depends on the amount of content in the content source, the computer's performance, and what other tasks are being performed by the computer at the same time.

Before you can proceed to the next step, The search service must complete a full crawl of the content source.
