How to: Connect to the Device Emulator From a Virtual PC Session

You cannot use TCP/IP to connect to the device emulator during a Virtual PC (VPC) session because VPC does not support the Virtual Network Switch driver. The emulator needs this driver for a TCP/IP connection. Instead, use the steps that follow.

Note

The dialog boxes and menu commands you see might differ from those described in Help depending on your active settings or edition. To change your settings, choose Import and Export Settings on the Tools menu. For more information, see Visual Studio Settings.

To connect to the emulator during a Virtual PC session

  1. Install Microsoft ActiveSync 4.x in the Virtual PC image.

  2. On the ActiveSync File menu, click Connection Settings.

  3. In the Connection Settings dialog box, change the connection transport to DMA.

  4. Launch the emulator.

  5. On the Visual Studio Tools menu, click Device Emulator Manager.

  6. In the Available Emulators box, right-click the desired emulator, and then click Cradle on the shortcut menu.

  7. Follow the instructions in the ActiveSync wizard to establish a partnership.
