How to: Create a Test List

Test lists are used to organize tests into persistent logical groups. You can create test lists under the top-level Lists of Tests node or under existing lists.

You work with test lists in the Test List Editor.

To create a test list

  1. On the Test menu, click Create New Test List.

    - or -

    In the test list pane of the Test List Editor, right-click the node into which you want to put a new child list and then click Create New Test List. This node can be either the top-level Lists of Tests node or an existing list. If you create a test list this way, the default location for the new test list will be as a child of the node you right-clicked.

    - or -

    Select one or more tests in the right pane of the Test List Editor, right-click, and then click New Test List. If you create a test list this way, it will be contain the tests you selected.

    The Create New Test List dialog box appears.

  2. In the Name field, type the name of the test list you want to create.

  3. (Optional) Specify a description of the test list and a location for the new list in the list hierarchy.

  4. (Optional) Under Select where in test list hierarchy to place this list, select the parent test list of the test list you are creating.

  5. Click OK.

    The new test list is created in the test list hierarchy.

To delete a test list

  • Right-click the test list you want to delete, and then click Delete.

    - or -

    Select the test list in the Test List Editor and press Delete.

    The test list is deleted from the hierarchy. The tests that it contained are not deleted. If those tests are not present in any other categories, they are moved to the Tests Not in a List node.

To rename a test list

  1. Right-click the test list you want to rename, and then click Rename.

  2. Edit the name of the test list.

  3. Press Enter.
