How to: Rearrange Diagram Windows

In Distributed System Designers, you can rearrange diagram windows into tabbed groups. You can group diagrams horizontally or vertically and move them between groups.

For example, you can arrange system diagrams or logical datacenter diagrams into tabbed groups to review them side by side or make it easier to copy between them. In addition, arranging a system diagram and deployment diagram into different groups makes it easier to bind applications to logical servers by dragging directly from the system diagram to the deployment diagram.

Note

If a system definition is composed from other systems, applications that comprise those systems will not be visible on the system diagram for you to bind to logical servers. To bind these applications, use the System View window. For more information, see How to: Bind Applications to Logical Servers.

To group diagram windows

  1. Right-click the document tab from which you want to create a group.

  2. Choose one of the following:

    • New Horizontal Tab Group to create a horizontal diagram group.

    • New Vertical Tab Group to create a vertical diagram group.

Visual Studio creates a new document tab group with the diagram you selected.

To move a diagram to another group

  1. Right-click the document tab that you want to move.

  2. Choose one of the following:

    • Move to Next Tab Group to move the diagram to the next group.

    • Move to Previous Tab Group to move the diagram to the previous group, if a previous group exists.
