How to: Enable the LAN Booster Service for Enhanced Performance

For the database administrator, this topic explains how to enable the LAN booster service on the server machine to allow increased performance during database access. This optional capability is only available to the SourceSafe LAN plug-in in Visual Studio. The plug-in will operate as in previous Visual SourceSafe releases without the LAN booster service.

To enable the LAN booster service:

  1. In Visual SourceSafe Administrator, on the Server menu, click Configure.

  2. In the Server Configuration dialog box, click the LAN Service tab.

  3. Select the Enable LAN service for this computer check box.

  4. Click OK to apply your settings.

  5. If necessary, notify any users of the SourceSafe LAN plug-in in Visual Studio that the service is enabled and they can begin work. For more information, see Using Visual SourceSafe in Microsoft Visual Studio.
