Directory Access (SQL Server Compact Edition)

The Directory Access page of the Configure Web Synchronization Wizard lets you specify the client accounts that require access to the virtual directory. The client accounts can be either groups or users.

After Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) authenticates the client, IIS checks whether the client is authorized to start replication or remote data access (RDA). To control which clients can invoke replication or RDA, NTFS file system permissions on the SQL Server Compact Edition Server Agent in SQL Server Compact Edition, or SQL Server Replication Listener in SQL Server, content folder and the UNC snapshot share (when you use merge replication) are required. Proper configuration of permissions is very important to prevent unauthorized access to Microsoft SQL Server.

Click Add to include groups and users as the valid client accounts to access SQL Server. The appropriate NTFS permissions are added to the Windows groups or user accounts that are specified.

The virtual directory will be used for SQL Server merge replication with a snapshot share.

If your application uses merge replication and a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) configured snapshot share, not an FTP-configured snapshot share only, NTFS Read permissions on the actual snapshot folder and the share are required.

Select this check box if one or more of the following states exists:

• A UNC snapshot share has already been created and specified during the configuration of the SQL Server Distributor.
• The UNC snapshot share has been created and will be specified when the SQL Server Distributor is configured.
