How to: Publish Report Samples

You can use Report Designer in Business Intelligence Development Studio to publish sample report definition files to the report server. The sample reports and the AdventureWorks2008R2 shared data source are included in the report server project file that installs with the sample. When you publish the reports, the shared data source and the reports are published to the report server. If you do not have access to Report Designer, you can use Report Manager to upload the reports.

In addition to publishing the sample reports, you must install the AdventureWorks sample databases and deploy the Adventure Works DW Analysis Services cube. For more information, see AdventureWorks Report Samples.

Note

The AdventureWorksOffline report samples do not require the AdventureWorks sample database to be installed.

To publish the AdventureWorks and AdventureWorksOffline sample reports using Report Designer

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, and then click SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio.

  2. On the File menu, point to Open, and then click Project/Solution.

  3. Navigate to the folder where the sample reports were installed. The default location is <drive>:Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Samples\Reporting Services\Report Samples\AdventureWorks Sample Reports.

  4. Select AdventureWorksSampleReports.rptproj, and then click Open.

  5. On the standard toolbar, select the Production solution configuration. (The default configuration is Debug.)

  6. Publish the reports. On the Debug menu, click Start.

    Note

    The sample report project is set to publish reports to the report server on the local computer. For information about changing the target server, see

    Publishing Data Sources and Reports.

  7. When publishing is complete, Report Designer opens Internet Explorer. Click a report name to view the report.
