Commands Tab, Customize Dialog Box (Visual Studio)

The Commands tab allows you to add and remove commands on toolbars, and change the images used for toolbar buttons. Select Customize on the Tools menu to display the Customize dialog box, and then choose Commands.

Note

The options available in dialog boxes, and the names and locations of menu commands you see, might differ from what is described in Help depending on your active settings or edition. To change your settings, choose Import and Export Settings on the Tools menu. For more information, see Visual Studio Settings.

  • Categories
Specifies the set of commands that are displayed in the Commands list box. The categories of commands are based on menu titles provided by the tools and designers that the environment currently supports. This list of titles is dynamic, allowing the order of categories and menu titles to change, depending on what tools and designers are available, and whether their menus have been customized.

    Note

It is possible for two menus in different designers to share the same title. In such cases, the menu title will appear twice, offering two different command sets.

  • Commands
Displays the commands and command images based on the category you selected. You can drag a command onto the toolbar you want to customize.

  • Modify Selection
Displays a list of commands you can use to customize the display of the button on the toolbar. For example, you can change the image or accelerator keys, or specify whether to display text instead of an image for the command. This button is available after you select a command button on a toolbar you want to customize.

  • Rearrange Commands
Displays the Rearrange Commands dialog box, so that you can modify menus.

  • Keyboard
Displays the Keyboard, Environment, Options Dialog Box, so that you can specify shortcut key combinations for commands.
