How to: Delete the Version Control Cache on the Application-tier Server

After you rebuild the data warehouse, you must delete the data cache for version control on the application-tier server for Team Foundation. This action synchronizes the version control cache on the application-tier server with the data-tier server after you restore the databases for Team Foundation. If you do not delete this cache, version control clients might appear to have files that are not synchronized with the most recent changes.

Note

You must rebuild the data warehouse whenever you move, restore, or fail over the data-tier server for Team Foundation. For more information, see How to: Rebuild the Team System Cube.

Required Permissions

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Team Foundation Administrators group. For more information, see Team Foundation Server Permissions.

To delete the version control cache on the application-tier server

  1. On the application-tier server, open Windows Explorer, and browse to the following directory:

    Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Team Foundation Server\Web Services\VersionControl\Data

    Note

By default, the cache is located in this directory. If the cache directory has been customized, you must browse to the appropriate folder. For more information about how to customize the cache location, see How to: Change Cache Settings for an Application-Tier Server.

  2. Delete the contents of the Data folder but not the folder itself.

    Important noteImportant Note:

If you delete the Data folder, unauthorized exception errors will appear in the event logs of the service account for Team Foundation Server. To resolve this issue, you must re-create the Data folder and grant the local group TFS_APPTIER_SERVICE_WPG both Read and Write permissions.
