Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1, Archiving Service

The Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1, Archiving service consist of two components:

  • The archiving agent installed by default on each Live Communications Server.
  • The Archiving service itself, which is installed on a separate server with a SQL database for storing the logged messages.

Each archiving agent in a Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition pool dispatches messages to be logged to a Microsoft MSMQ (Message Queuing) queue. Along with the message, the archiving agent also sends a path to a separate MSMQ queue to be used for acknowledging receipt of the message. The Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1, Archiving service picks up messages from the queue and writes them to the SQL database. It acknowledges receipt of each message, using the MSMQ path specified by the archiving agent.

Message archiving is configured with three Live Communications Server WMI classes: MSFT_SIPLogOptions, MSFT_SIPLogSetting for the archiving agent, and MSFT_SIPLogServiceSetting for the Archiving service.
