Defining and Modifying Global Parameters

A parameter is a variable that provides information to a task within a job. Global parameters are defined on the DTM controller and can be used by any job.

For more information about parameters, see Using Parameters.

To create a new global parameter

  1. Switch to the Management Console window.
You can also open a new Management Console window by clicking Tools, and then clicking Management Console.
  2. In the left pane of the Management Console window, expand Console Root, expand your Datastore, right-click Global Parameters, and then select New Global Parameter.
  3. In the Add Parameter dialog box, type a name for the global parameter.
  4. To provide a default value for the global parameter, enter the value in the Value field.
  5. Type a description of what the global parameter represents in the Description field.
  6. If you want the user to be able to override the value of this parameter when the job is scheduled, select the IsScheduleDisplay check box.
  7. Click OK.

To modify the value of a global parameter

  1. You can modify the value of a global parameter in two different ways. First, you can provide a new default value that will be used in all jobs that use the global parameter. Second, if you selected IsScheduleDisplay when you defined the global parameter, then you can override the value of the global parameter when you schedule a job, and the new value will be used only during the current execution of the job.

  2. This procedure describes how to modify the default value of a global parameter. To override the value of a global parameter when you schedule a job to execute, see Executing a Job.

You can also open a new Management Console window by clicking Tools, and then clicking Management Console.
