How to: Install Administrative Tools

This content is no longer actively maintained. It is provided as is, for anyone who may still be using these technologies, with no warranties or claims of accuracy with regard to the most recent product version or service release.

You can install Speech Server Administrative Tools on a computer that does not have a Speech Server installation. These are the same tools that are installed with Speech Server Setup. You can use them to administer Speech Server instances on both local and remote computers.

Speech Server Administrative Tools consists of the Speech Server snap-in for Microsoft Management Console (MMC). Consider installing the Speech Server Administrator console as a stand-alone tool if you plan on using the console to connect to an administration computer that is already set up to manage the Speech Server deployment groups. This method can be quicker and easier than accessing the administration computer using Remote Desktop Connection. For more information about using the Administrator console to connect other computers, see How to: Connect to Another Administration Computer.

The following procedure is typically used to set up a single computer as a remote Administrator console.

Before installing Speech Server Administrative Tools, verify that the computer is running one of the following operating systems:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2 (x86 or x64)
  • Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate (x86 or x64)
  • Microsoft Windows Vista Business (x86 or x64)
  • Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise (x86 or x64)
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition R2 (x86 or x64)
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition R2 (x86 or x64)
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2 (x86 or x64)
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2 (x86 or x64)
