Add, edit, or delete a model property

In the Model Properties workspace, you can add, edit, and delete properties in a model.

To add a model property in the Model Properties or Business Rules Workspaces

  1. In the Workspace Browser pane, click Models.

  2. In the Models workspace, click to open a model.

  3. Click the Model Properties tab.

  4. In the Model Tasks pane, click Check Out.

  5. Click the Add Model Property button. The Add a Model Property dialog box opens.

  6. In the Label field, enter a label for the model property. The label is the primary identifier of objects throughout the system, cannot exceed 40 characters, and must be unique. The model property label has reserved words and restricted characters that cannot be used in the label. See the topic About names and labels for more information about how to create labels and label restrictions.

  7. (Optional) In the Description field, enter a description of the model property, up to 512 characters.

  8. In the Data Type drop-down list, select one of the following values: Decimal (real), Text (string), True/False (Boolean), Whole (integer), Member of Dimension, and Members of Dimension.

    1. If you selected Decimal (real), Text (string), True/False (Boolean), or Whole (integer), continue to step 9.

    2. If you selected Member of Dimension or Members of Dimension, continue to step 10.

  9. In the Value text box, enter a value and then continue to step 13.

  10. In the Dimension Alias drop-down list, select an alias.

  11. In the Member drop-down list, to select a member, click the ellipsis button (...). Alternatively, you can select the Set value to null check box.

  12. In the Add or Remove Members dialog box, click a member name check box and then click OK.

  13. Click OK to finish creating the property.

To edit a model property in the Model Properties workspace

  1. In the Workspace Browser pane, click Models.

  2. On the Models workspace, click to open a model.

  3. Click the Model Properties tab.

  4. In the Model Tasks pane, click Check Out.

  5. In the Model Properties table, click to select the model property you want to change.

    Note

    Only the Description (optional), Value, and Member(s) fields can be edited. The Value field appears only if the data type is a primitive; that is, it is not a member or member set of a dimension. The Member(s) field appears only if the data type is a member of dimension or members of dimension.

  6. Click the Edit Model Property button. The Edit Model Property dialog box opens.

  7. In the Edit Model Property dialog box, make any changes and then click OK.

To delete a model property in the Model Properties workspace

  1. In the Workspace Browser pane, click Models.

  2. On the Models workspace, click to open a model.

  3. Click the Model Properties tab.

  4. In the Model Tasks pane, click Check Out.

  5. In the Model Properties table, click to select the model property you want to delete.

  6. Click the Delete Model Property button. The Delete Model Property warning appears.

  7. Click Yes to delete the model property.
