Deploying Applications in New Server Topologies
Office Communications Server 2007 supports a number of server roles including Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition, Access Edge, Web Conferencing Edge, Audio/Visual Conferencing Edge, Communicator Web Access, Enterprise pool Front End, Enterprise Edition Back-End Database, Archiving service, Director, and Forwarding Proxy.
Third-party applications can be deployed on any or all of these server types, depending on desired functionality. Understanding how each new server role functions is essential to both application design and deployment.
