Running DSS Services

Services run within a context known as a Decentralized Software Services node, (DSS) node. A DSS node is a hosting environment that provides support for services to be created and managed until they are deleted or the DSS node is stopped. A DSS node can either be started as a stand-alone application using the DSS Host Tool (DssHost.exe) or as part of another application using the DSS environment static class.

An example of how to start a stand alone DSS node using DSS Host Tool (DssHost.exe) is to run the following from within a DSS command prompt available from the Start menu.

dsshost /p:50000

Regardless of how the DSS node was started, you can point a Web browser at it to inspect and interact with services. In the example above, the URL to use is

https://localhost:50000/

In your browser you should now see a page looking like this.

Bb483055.Home(en-us,MSDN.10).png

Now you can navigate to the Control Panel (see DSS System Services) and see which services are available.

The Service Directory lists all of the currently running services. Even in this case simple case, where you just started a DSS node, there will be some System Services running.
