Project cannot be created because the "Word Visual Studio Design Time Adaptor Add-in" or "Excel Visual Studio Design Time Adaptor Add-in" is not working correctly. Word or Excel might have disabled the add-in or made it inactive, or all add-ins might be disabled in your Trust Center settings. Check the add-in status in Word Options or Excel Options. If the add-in is active and enabled, reinstall or repair Visual Studio Tools for Office.

The Word Visual Studio Design Time Adaptor add-in or Excel Visual Studio Design Time Adaptor add-in is not working correctly. These add-ins must be enabled for your projects to run.

To find out whether Microsoft Office Word or Microsoft Office Excel has disabled the add-in, you must check in two places:

  • Trust Center.

  • Active Application Add-ins list.

If the add-in is active and enabled but this message still appears, the add-in might be corrupted. In this case, reinstall or repair your installation of Visual Studio Tools for Office.

To verify that add-ins are enabled by the current trust settings

  1. In Word or Excel, click the Microsoft Office ButtonOffice 2007 Button.

  2. Click Word Options or Excel Options.

  3. In the categories pane, click Trust Center.

  4. In the details pane, click Trust Center Settings.

  5. In the categories pane, click Add-ins.

  6. Verify that the check box next to Disable all Application Add-ins is cleared.

To verify that the add-in is active

  1. In Word or Excel, click the Microsoft Office ButtonOffice 2007 Button.

  2. Click Word Options or Excel Options.

  3. In the categories pane, click Add-ins.

  4. In the details pane, locate Word Visual Studio Design Time Adaptor Add-in or Excel Visual Studio Design Time Adaptor Add-in.

    If the add-in is in the Active Application Add-ins list, Word or Excel has not disabled the add-in.

    If the add-in is in the Inactive Application Add-ins or Disabled Application Add-ins list, follow these steps to re-enable the add-in.

  5. In the Manage box, click COM Add-ins, and then click Go.

  6. In the COM Add-Ins dialog box, select the check box next to Word Visual Studio Design Time Adaptor Add-in or Excel Visual Studio Design Time Adaptor Add-in.

  7. Click OK.
