PC Card 16-Bit PCMCIA Host Controller Driver Test exercises all 16-bit (PCMCIA) functionalities provided by PC Card bus driver stack (PDD). Use this test to verify that a 16-bit PC Card PDD driver works with the CE PC Card MDD layer, or that the CEPC Card driver stack works on the target hardware system that exposes 32-bit or 32-bit slots or available PCI slots.

Due to the nature of PC Card driver stack, the PC Card Legacy PCMCIA Driver Test cannot exercise the real interrupt/physical memory/IO interactions. In order to test PC Card driver stack thoroughly, testers are encouraged to run some additional tests, such as:

  • Basic network transfer tests using network cards
  • Storage tests using CF cards
  • Tests that involve repeated manual insertion and removal of cards, both with and without data transfer taking place
  • If applicable, tests that involve suspending and resuming the system while cards are in slots, both with and without data transfer taking place

The PC Card Legacy PCMCIA Driver Test modifies the registry settings when launched. This causes a dummy driver to load when a card is inserted, allowing the test to control the card and exercise the application programming interface calls provided by the MDD layer. This test can also run tests against a system with multiple slots available.
