This documentation set provides an application developer or device engineer with information about Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows Embedded CE 6.0. CE 6.0 and Windows Mobile 6.5 extend the familiarity of Windows to portable and embedded devices. CE 6.0 and Windows Mobile 6.5 include seamless and improved security for data connectivity, rich API support such as Bluetooth, programming models for native code and managed code, a programming model for mobile web development, and device resources such as multithreading.
With CE 6.0 and Windows Mobile 6.5, you can reduce development time and cost by taking advantage of a familiar Windows development environment, consistent programming model, and comprehensive technical resources.
To help avoid duplication of content, the Windows Mobile and Windows Embedded CE documentation includes the following sections:
- Windows Mobile 6
Conceptual and reference material specific to Windows Mobile 6.5.
- Windows Embedded CE 6.0 Documentation
Conceptual and reference material specific to Windows Embedded CE 6.0.
Shared Windows Mobile 6 and Windows Embedded CE 6.0 Library (this section)
API reference material common to Windows Mobile and Windows Embedded CE.This section provides information about extending, interacting with, and configuring technologies and services for Windows Mobile and Windows Embedded CE.
Each topic contains a table that identifies the platforms to which the topic is relevant. For example, the following table shows that a topic is relevant to CE 6.0 but not to Windows Mobile 6.5:
Each topic that documents a programming element also contains a requirements table that specifies one or more of the following items related to the programming element:
- The name of the header file.
- The name of the library file.
- The earliest version of Windows Embedded CE that supports the programming element.
- The earliest version of Windows Mobile that supports the programming element.
Note
For a topic that documents a programming element supported by Windows Mobile and not supported by Windows Embedded CE, the version of the underlying Windows Embedded CE operating system does not appear. Some programming elements might be supported by versions of Windows Mobile earlier than Windows Mobile Version 5.0.
