The following table shows the named values for the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\DnsProxy registry key that you can use to configure the DNS server.

The list of public interfaces that sends queries to the DNS server are defined in the PublicInterface value under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnectionSharing registry key. For more information, see Connection Sharing Registry Settings.

The default registry values vary depending on which Catalog items are included in your OS design. For more information, see Default Registry Settings.

Value : type Description

ServerTimeout : REG_DWORD

This value specifies the length of time, in milliseconds, that the network adapter waits for a response from the DNS/WINS server.

Default setting is 4000.

UseSecondaryDNSWins : REG_DWORD

This value determines whether or not a secondary WINS server should be used on each network adapter if the query to the first DNS server fails. The possible values are TRUE or FALSE.

Default value is TRUE.

MaxQueriesPerServer : REG_DWORD

This value specifies the maximum number of attempts made on each network adapter to resolve the DNS/WINS server name.

Default setting is 1.
