The Windows Server operating system provides many platform technologies that support various application development strategies. The use of platform technologies such as the Active Directory directory service and Internet Information Services (IIS) improves third-party and custom application management and interoperability across the enterprise. Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 uses many of these technologies to achieve better performance, compatibility, reliability, and integration than you can achieve by using Exchange-specific or non-integrated technologies. This section describes how Exchange 2007 uses those platform technologies.
