Commerce Server Health Monitoring Service

For the latest version of Commerce Server 2007 Help, see the Microsoft Web site.

Commerce Server 2007 introduces the Commerce Server Health Monitoring Service. This service monitors the state of your Commerce Server Web services and applications. It is designed to work with Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 and the Microsoft Commerce Server 2007 Management Object Model (MOM) Pack.

You use the Health Monitoring Service to monitor Commerce Server 2007 Web services installed in one or multiple sites. The Health Monitoring Service can highlight issues that cause downtime or poor performance, such as unavailable services, long response time, and security breaches.

This service takes advantage of the information in the MMC database for Commerce Server so that it can obtain all the required configuration information about the sites, and which resources are available within each site.

Commerce Server Health Monitoring Service Extensibility

The Commerce Server Health Monitoring Service monitors the states of each Web service by calling functions that check the context of each system and its corresponding Web service. If the function encounters an error, the function generates one of the following error conditions:

  • Service monitoring exception occurred.

  • Critical error occurred.

  • Error occurred.

  • Security problem or risk occurred.

  • Service is unavailable.

  • Dependency problem is blocking the service monitor function.

You can extend the Health Monitoring Service by defining a custom implementation of the interface function. For information about how to customize the Commerce Server Health Monitoring Service, see the Microsoft Commerce Server 2007 MOM Pack Technical Guide at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=7199.

Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005

Microsoft Operations Manager delivers enterprise-class operations management by providing comprehensive event management, proactive monitoring and alerting, reporting, and trend analysis. MOM supports the following functions:

  • Monitors application, system, and security events.

  • Provides administrative interface and workflow.

  • Contains an administration console for setting up your administrative workflow, monitoring, notification, and knowledge base.

  • Contains a management console for management of alerts, events, issue assignment, tracking, resolution, and to view an internal knowledge base.

Commerce Server 2007 MOM Pack

The Commerce Server 2007 MOM Pack provides availability, health, and configuration monitoring of Commerce Server services. It is tightly integrated into the Microsoft Operations Manager interface for review, assignment, and resolution of issues. By monitoring the Commerce Server services that are installed in one or more sites, the Commerce Server MOM Pack highlights issues that cause downtime or poor performance, such as unavailable services, long response times, and security breaches.

The Commerce Server MOM Pack collects performance analysis and capacity-planning data by tracking application performance and user load. The MOM Pack supports the following functions:

  • Monitors availability and health of Commerce Services.

  • Monitors configuration status of the Commerce Services.

  • Identifies issues that may cause downtime or poor performance.

  • Collects performance analysis and capacity planning data.

The MOM Pack provides rules and groups for event monitoring of each Commerce Server sub system, such as the Catalog System, Marketing System, and so on.

The Commerce Server 2007 MOM Pack uses the Commerce Server Health Monitoring Service to register and encapsulate Commerce Server service events.
