MOM Interoperability

To increase the management capabilities of your operation, MOM supports several different mechanisms for interoperability with other systems and products. MOM allows alerts to generate Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) traps that are automatically sent to SNMP trap destinations. MOM also can receive SNMP traps from non-Windows systems, such as UNIX systems or hardware devices. Additionally, UNIX computers can forward syslog messages to MOM, which will then monitor those messages.

For more information about MOM and SNMP, see Generating SNMP Traps from MOM. For more information about MOM and UNIX syslog messages, see Receiving UNIX Syslog Messages in MOM.

MOM data exposed through WMI classes and SQL views can be used to create connector applications. One of the uses for a custom connector application is to integrate MOM with management products that run on different operating systems. For more information, see MOM WMI Classes and MOM SQL Views.
