Packaging for Microsoft ActiveSync

Microsoft ActiveSync enables a user to install an application through the desktop PC rather than directly through the device. Additional steps are required from the developer to create an installation program that is compatible with Microsoft ActiveSync:

  1. After creating a .cab file by using the .cab file creation utility (CABWizSP on Smartphone or CABWiz on Pocket PC), the developer must create a setup application that registers the .cab file with the Application Manager in ActiveSync.
  2. When a user runs the setup application, the Application Manager starts and ActiveSync copies the .cab file to the device and starts WCELOAD.exe through the Remote API (RAPI).
