SMS Router

The Short Message Service (SMS) Router is the first operating system level software component to receive incoming SMS messages from the network. It accepts SMS messages, determines their final destination, and delivers them to the appropriate software component on the device for processing. The SMS Router is designed to route messages to one client per provider.

In the process of moving SMS messages from the SMS Router to the appropriate layers of the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) stack, messages that conform to Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) version 3.40 are passed from the SMS Router to a network-layer dynamic-link library (DLL). The network-layer DLL then offers the messages to SMS Providers that are listening on one or more Internet Protocol (IP) ports.

To implement the message, applications use the Short Message Service component on Microsoft® Windows Mobile™-based Smartphone and Windows Mobile™-based Pocket PC, as described in the following sections.
